Today’s Lessons: Sit & stay, shake, dance, outside, back, and continue practice of previous lessons.
Treats: Bacon treats, affection, and milk bones.
Sit & Stay So today she can sit and stay in one spot for a few minutes. Every time I go to the next room I get to the baby gate and when she comes I tell her to sit & stay. So it clicked and she does it now. She doesn’t cry as much anymore when I leave the room. Sometimes a hear a little whimper then silence, which totally scares me and I run to check. Usually she in one of her favorite spots chewing on a rawhide or her favorite toy. hehe.. I’m a little too nervous about letting her out of my sight.
Shake is still a little shaky. She doesn’t want to do it often even for treats. I guess she’s learned so many other things that shake isn’t one of the more important tricks. She’ll get it eventually. We aren’t in any big rush.
dance so the other day my sis came over and she’s got two good dogs at home, she decided to teach Missy how to dance. The floor is tile so its kinda slippery and she didn’t know if it would work. Missy kind of did it the other day. Today I was trying again and she actually got all the way up and attempted to twirl. It was the cutest thing ever.
Outside is easier today as well. She doesn’t fight me when it comes to going out. She even initiates that she wants to go out. So we go to the door, I ask her to sit so I can put on her leash (I’m still bad at putting that on). Then I used the “outside” word trigger today and she happily went out. She’s afraid to go down the stairs, which I don’t blame because its high up and well the fall will hurt. She doesn’t mind going up the stairs now that she knows she can make it. The first few days she had a little trouble and refused to come inside. One step at a time and maybe maybe she’ll even poo outside.
Back was just understood. So every time I go to the baby gate I have her sit stay and when I come back into the room I make sure that she’s not on top of the gate so I can move it and come through. So I’ve been saying “back” and waving my arms to shoo her. Without even knowing it I taught her a new lesson.
Sit is perfect now and she just plops on down when I tell her to. Come is pretty good too, sometimes I have to give extra motivation. I’ve been trying to do a lot of different things with her in anticipation of children and such. I pet her when she eats, sometimes I feed her tiny handfuls at a time, and even leave my hand in the bowl. She doesn’t mind me petting her a little roughly and erratically like a child would. She doesn’t mind me holding her, or even flipping her over on to expose her shaved belly. *lol* I hope her sister is somewhat like her and not the wild child of the litter. I’ll find out next Tuesday. Wish me luck.
